GTO. These 3 letters remind of the most iconic Ferrari of all time, the 250 GTO. But this is also the name the factory from Maranello has chosen to name its new ceation of 1984 : the 288 GTO. GTO stand for "Gran Turismo Omologata" and 288 for 2,8 L of displacement and 8 cylinders. This car has been designed to compete in the group B class of the world rally championship. Unfortunately, the end of the group B class didn't allow Ferrari to compete in this championship. Anyway, the 288 GTO will remain forever a fantastic road car if not race car, and the first of the supercar line.
The shape of the 288, pure and elegant, looks similar to a "simple" 308 GTB, but taking a close look shows many differences. The chassis is 11 cm longer and the GTO is much wider. What's more, the weight is just 1160 Kg thanks to a glass fiber, Kevlar and carbon body. The engine is the 2.8 L V8 that has been deeply enhanced and fitted with two IHI turbochargers. That translates into magic numbers : 400 HP and more than 300 Km/h max speed.
The car we are proud to offer has been delivered new in France by Pozzi in Paris. It has then been exported to Japan and the USA. The different owners were collectors that took much care of the car in order to keep it in like new condition. The car has thus always been perfectly maintained and preserved. It has been driven very little but regularly and the last major service has been carried out in 2008. It is currently in perfect condition and this is probably one of the best 288 GTO currently available on the market.
The price includes shipping to Europe and all european or swiss taxes. For those who might want to purchase the car exluding VAT, it could be sold as export price (VAT qualifying). |
