A derivate from Volkswagen’s first car the Type 1, more commonly known as the Beetle, the Type 2 was produced from 1950 to 1967 in its T1 variant. Also called Split Window because of its two-part windshield, the Volkswagen T1 Combi was one of the most iconic cars of the 1960s.
Powered by the same air-cooled, rear-mounted flat-4 engine as in the Volkswagen Beetle, originally a 1100cc good for 24bhp. It evolved through the years the same way it did under the hood of the Beetle, to become a 1500 cc with 54 bhp in 1967, the last year of the production of the T1 Bus.
Styling remained mostly the same during all 17 years of production of the T1 Type 2. 3 “generations”, nowadays referred to a T1a, T1b and T1c were produced, with changes to the rear door of the Type 2. Until 1955, the “barn door” referred to the large engine lid, replaced by a taller trunk lid and small engine door in 1964. Finally, the T1c had a wider rear windshield and an optional side sliding door, creating what is considered by many as the very first minivan.
The Volkswagen Type 2 we are happy to offer is one of the very last Microbus T1 ever produced in one of its most popular version: the Samba-Bus 21-windows. Also known as the Deluxe Microbus, it was the top of the range T1 in 1967.
Living most of its life in the U.S., this Volkswagen Type 2 T1 was imported to Belgium following a complete restoration. Having completed only 1,500 miles since, this Volkswagen T1 is a unique opportunity to purchase one of the coolest cars in the automotive history and a pop culture icon. Equipped with its original roof rack, this VW Microbus is in perfect condition.
This Volkswagen Type 2 T1 Samba 21-window is immediately available in France with its Belgian registration. |
