This is one of the rare Mitsubishi Pajero Dakar Works Prototypes of 1993, tuned for Rallye Raid by the team SMB (Bernard Maingret) for the Mitsubishi factory.
This prototype was originally manufactured for the Spanish driver Gian Maria Servia in order to race in the 1993 Paris-Dakar Rally, , the most challenging race in the world.
At the last moment Servia couldn’t join the official Mitsubishi team, thus this prototype wasn’t in the starting blocks of the 1993 Dakar and has never been raced.
This is one of the last Rallye Raid Prototypes allowed to race without technical restrictions. Depending on the races and used fuel type the Mitsubishi engines were developing between 360 and 450 HP. For security reasons from 1994 on the FIA established strict technical regulations, with power limitations, reduced spring deflection, maximum weight according to engine size etc.
Since 1987 Peugeot was the challenging team in Rally Raid due to its experience with Group B cars. Mitsubishi has always been standing back compared to the performances of the 205 Turbo 16 or the 405 Turbo 16. In 1990 Peugeot disengaged from Rally Raid and let its sister Citroën with their ZX take its place. These cars were nothing else bot evolutions of the 405 T16, and were even faster. It took Mitsubishi until 1992 to develop a car that would be able to beat the ZX, which was finally the case in the 1992 & 93 Dakar Rally.
We proudly present a car that offered numerous successes to Mitsubishi and remains one of the final most performing Rally Raid prototypes.
Indeed, Mitsubishi engaged 4 identical prototypes in the 1993 Dakar. Saby / Serieys won this race with their Mitsubishi.
The winning car was returned to Japan, but an identical new car, the one that had been prepared for Servia, was repainted in the livery of the victor and used for promotions on the European market.
This Mitsubishi is the identical clone of the winning car and remained in like new condition in France. It was never raced since it’s preparation for the 1993 Dakar.
We offer here probably the last chance to dispose of a new, full power Pajero in the Dakar winning configuration.
A certificate of authenticity will be delivered by the former racing director of Mitsubishi, Dominique Serieys, team mate of Saby, who won the 1993 Dakar.
This incredible works prototype Mitsubishi Pajero is now available in France. |
