Lola Cars International Ltd. founded in 1958 started by building small front-engine sports cars, and branched out into Formula Junior cars before diversifying into one of the oldest and largest manufacturers of racing cars in the world.
When Formula Two became Formula 3000 in 1986, Lola had significant success, competing with Ralt and Reynard.
In 1996 the International Formula 3000 Championship became a one-make series and Lola was awarded the contract by the FIA to build the Lola T96/50 chassis for all teams competing in the championship. The contract was renewed in 1999 (Lola B99/50) and 2002 (Lola B02/50) before International F3000 was replaced by GP2.
Lola succeeded in winning the largest-ever contract for single-seater racing cars in 2005, winning the contract for the A1 Grand Prix series.
The here presented car is a Formula 3000 Nippon built by Lola in 1999 for the Nippon Series. This is chassis #3 of 12 built. It was raced by Kageyama in Japan at the time during 6 races before being stored then imported to the US and sold to the present owner. In the US it raced in a dozen of races in the US BOSS Series, obtaining three 2nd places in 2008.
The car is 100% original and all the components are correct. The engine fitted is the correct Mugen 3.0L (type MF-308 V8) with aluminum heads and block and titanium valves. The engine has always been rebuilt by Tomei Engine, the no. 1 engine builder in Japan for Mugen, the manufacturer (who doesn't rebuild their own engines). The wheels are Rays Engineering with Avon tires, steering is a Jack Knight with Momo steering wheel, ignition and ECU are Zytek.
The car is in a very good state. The engine however was just fully rebuilt at Mugen. It has just been driven 2 rimes: 1 day for test in Spa, 3 sessions of 20 minutes + 1 race in Zandvoort, without any trouble. This cars is a just perfect in all aspects. Total milleage from complete mechanical restoration is today 250 Kms.
The car is fully documented (invoices from the seller, Mugen, Lola etc.) and the technical documentation from Lola for the car set-up, assembly, disassembly and parts list are available. It will be sold with a spares package including two additional sets of wheels (OZ & Rays), slick and rain tires, additional Jack Knight steering, Lola and Hewland gear ratios, two additional clutches and gear box tools, etc.
This excellent F3000 Nippon race car is now available in Belgium. Nippon cars have an excellent reputation in the world of single seater racers, as they are not only quick, but also safe. |
