Superb Lancia Stratos 24 valves with all the latest evolution available in the seventies (Racing dog gearbox, limited slip differiential, …).
Last car of the famous “Chequered flag team”, 5 complete set of wheels.
This car spent most of its life in the UK (Click here for more information ).
Chequered Flag is known to have built four Lancia Stratos group 4, raced in the English championship with the most famous drivers of that period : Waldegaard, Kéké Rosberg, Billy Coleman, ... The first and the second car have been crashed (and destroyed), the last one in 1979 (#1637). So as to keep racing, the Chequered Flag decides to build and prepare a third Stratos, based on a street car, #1716. So as to simplify things, the team restamps the car with #1637 VIN and keep racing it with #1637 numbers from 1980 to 1982. In 1982, Chequered Flag is in a bad financial situation. Nevertheless, with the large spare parts in stock, they decide to build the ultimate Stratos with the best parts and evolutions available at that time. As they still have the papers of #1716, they naturally restamped that fourth car with #1716 VIN. The car is built as a group 4 with big racing dog gearbox, a large limited slip differential, and last but not least, a 24 valves version of the Ferrari engine, as Magnioli did. The result is more than hopeful as a british magazine, Autosport, had tested the car that proved to be faster than any competitors of that time (including the Audi Sport Quattro). The engine is dynoed at 293 HP. Unfortunately, Chequered flag doesn't live through the financial issue and the fourth Stratos has never been raced in competition (this is the car we offer today).
This stunning Stratos had a complete engine revision made by one of the best French specialist who restored it completely. The engine is still breaking in and did only 200 kilometers since its restoration. It is showing 293 BHP at dynotester (even 320 HP with racing setup) and remains extremly useable as a normal engine build for a daily car.
Despite some rumors, Mauro Ambrogi has confirmed that University Motor did build a Stratos 24 valves engine for Chequered Flag.
This car is immediately available in France with its French papers. |
