After several years of productive partnership on models such as the Espada and the Miura, Bertone and Marcello Gandini appeared as the most suitable to design the replacement for the old Islero. Inspired by the 1969 Iso Lele, which itself took some design cues from the Lamborghini Espada.
Presented in 1970 during the Geneva Auto Show, based the Espada’s shortened wheelbase, the Jarama fails to impress. Heavy, with an average built quality and a contested design, only 177 Jaramas will be sold within the first three years of production.
In 1973, the Jarama S is launched. This new model is both lighter and more powerful, the ergonomics are significantly improved and it comes standard with power steering, an optional feature most customers lobbied to see become a standard. 150 cars will be sold, bringing the total to 327 units. Lamborghini also built a one-off “Jarama Rally S” for its works driver Bob Wallace.
The car we are offering for sale today is one of these 150 Jarama S built. This particular car lived a quiet life with the same owner until the early 2000s. This very first owner drove it fairly regularly until 1989 when he decided to have it restored. The engine, gearbox, clutch, rear axle, brakes, shocks were all rebuilt as new. The car also received a fresh coat of paint. The interior, in splendid original condition was conserved. The work was completed in 1996.
The owner enjoyed his car for a few more years before selling it in the early 2000s. It had at this point only covered an additional 2,000 km.
In 2007, it received a major service for more of 15,000 Euros in invoices. It was then purchased by the current owner in 2010 and has only been driven 600 km since it was serviced.
